Time is running short!!!

There is not much time left and we have to make sure that McCain and Palin are not the next leaders of this country. The country and the LGBT community cannot stand that! And we need to try to help where we can to see that Prop 8 in California and Prop 2 in Florida are defeated.

Give money if you can, volunteer and what ever else you do make sure you VOTE

Jane Lynch Grand Marshal of Miami AIDS Walk

If you are going to be in South Florida on Sunday, April 20 head to the Miami Beach Convention Center and support the 20th Anniversary of the AIDS Walk Miami. The walk is one of the oldest and largest in the country and has raised millions to help women, children and men in South Florida with the disease.

Actress Jane Lynch is this year's grand marshal. Registration for the 3.1-mile walk begins at 8 am and the walk starts at 9 am. A post-walk celebration will be held at the botanical gardens.

Hillary, Barack: Sex vs. Color

The spin up to the 2008 presidential election has been a real eye-opener for me! To see a person of color and a women campaigning for the highest office in the country is fulfillment of a lot of dreams. But the campaigns have also underscored how prejudice and unfairness are still parts of our daily lives... they are just more subtle.

I am a Clinton supporter. It's not that I dislike Obama. It's just that I believe Clinton is more experienced and I like the idea of getting two Clinton's for the price of one. While I am supporting Clinton, I want the Democratic candidate to be someone who can beat the Republican candidate ... who at this point appears to be John McCain. McCain scares me on a lot of levels... he is too old, too much like Bush, and too much in the pocket of the raging right.

What really bothers me lately is how differently Clinton and Obama are treated by the press and the public. A recent USAToday poll asked "Who Should Play the Candidates." The results? Obama - Will Smith or Denzel Washington. McCain - Tommy Lee Jones. Clinton - Martha Stewart. Martha Stewart!!! First of all, she is not an actor and second of all she is a felon.

I guess I never realized that misogeny is such a pervasive part of our culture. There are bunches of people that don't want Clinton as president solely because she is a woman. Forget about qualifications, foreget about everything else... just because of her sex.

Sad...

The L Word Of to a Fast Start

The L Word opened season 5 on Jan. 6 and our favorite lesbians are back at it. You can read the episode 501 recap by one of my favorite AfterEllen writers, scribegrrrl, so I won't do it here.

As usual, reaction to the show is mixed but I found it entertaining, although I have to admit the writing was a bit uneven. I have been around a long time but I have never heard a lesbian (or anyone else for that matter) use uhauling as a verb.

I particularly like the Joyce/Phyllis storyline... it's nice to see some older gay girls, even disfunctional ones. And what's not to like about Jane Lynch and Cybil Shepherd doing anything!

I also liked the 'don't ask, don't tell' storyline. And, like the rest of the audience, I found Jenny to be even more annoying than last season, if that is possible.

Jennifer Beals and Cybil Shepherd were on The View this week talking about the show. Despite some really gratuitous, stupid questions, it was good to see the program discussed on a network program. CNN.com ran an article this week -- L Word actress: More to role than 'attitude' -- that discusses Rose Rollins and her Tasha role on the show.

We have come a long way... first a show about lesbians and then cast members talking about it on network TV and mainstream news media. Ok... Ok... I know we have a long way to go, but it's a start...
